Noise
Assessment Study: Oxy-Dominguez Hills Wells Site Project

Occidental
Petroleum under took an exploratory well project in Carson, California. AGI staff prepared a noise study. The existing noise environment, future noise
from the well site and recommend measurements and guidelines to control noise
and vibration near the site. The project
site is near the intersection of Charles Willard St. and Bishop Ave. With measurements from four receptors at
different times near the work area, AGI staff that analyzed the data to find
the source of sound and was it higher than the Noise Ordinance of Carson. The primary sources of sound near the site
were car traffic, truck traffic, and loading and unloading trucks.
From the load construction equipment the AGI staff found
that the highest levels found of construction noise ranged from 78dBAto 89 dBA
at 50 feet from the site. For future
noise levels, the CadnaA 3.7 Noise Model was used to calculate future noise
levels on the computer by plugging current data into the program. In order to reduce future noise levels, sound
barriers, approximately 8 feet near each sound source like the drill rig and
pipe lift, must be established the major since this is the source of
operation’s noise.
