Preliminary Noise Study: Mariposa Mews Mixed–Use Project

Acoustics
Group, Inc. (AGI) went to Mountain View, CA on January 11-12, 2011 to review
and perform measurements, evaluate future traffic and preliminary noise levels
for the project. From the city of
Mountain View General Plan’s Noise Guidelines and the State Noise Standards,
the regulations can guide the prevention and minimization of noise
disturbance. Located at 1616 West El
Camino Real in the City of Mountain View, the project took measurements at
receptors specifically placed and recorded for an hour or 24 hours. After evaluating the data, AGI were able to
figure out the measurements data of peak hour traffic noise level and the major
source of noise.
A recommendation to lessen noise is to have a
minimum 6 foot barrier built with solid material with any openings. Additionally, other proposals are a thicker
roof system, exhaust ducts, vents and weather-stripping or threshold seals
around the doors to decrease sound from coming into the interior of the
building.
